- More than 144,000 Texans sustain a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) each year. That’s one every four minutes.
- More than 5,700 Texans are permanently disabled every year from a TBI, and an estimated 440,000 Texans (2% of the population) live with a disability caused by a TBI. (These figures do not include veterans or military service members.)
The Brain Injury Association of Texas (BIATX) provides help, hope and a voice for Texans who have suffered a brain injury.
BIATX is dedicated to providing access to quality health care and raising awareness and understanding of brain injury through resource facilitation, education, advocacy and research for individuals who live with brain injury, their families and the professionals who serve them. BIATX and its state chapters is one of more than 40 chartered state Bran Injury Associations affiliated with the Brain Injury Association of America
Brain injury is not an event. It marks the start of a neurological disease that most often lasts a lifetime. Individuals who sustain a brain injury must have quick access to expert trauma care followed by specialized rehabilitation and lifelong disease management to live healthy, independent and satisfying lives.
